  9. Developed by Advanced Software Concepts, asc5250 is a Terminal Tool designed to
  10. offer 5250 terminal emulation for AS400 using the standard access interfaces of Apple's Communication Toolbox. Currently, asc5250 supports telnet connections over
  11. TCP/IP using our TCP/IP connection tool called TCPack.

  13. asc5250 is System 7.0 compliant and supports balloon help.

  16. This Demo is being made available on this forum ONLY for evaluation purpose.

  18. Enclosed is a demo version of asc5250. This version is fully functional, but
  19. the connection time is limited to 8 minutes for each session. Also, an
  20. Installer application is delivered with the commercial version which allows an
  21. End-User or a System Administrator to setup the default connection parameters.

  24. Hardware & Software Requirements :

  27. • Any Macintosh with at least 128K Roms (Macintosh Plus and newers).
  28.  
  29. • Macintosh System Software 6.0.4 or later.
  30.  
  31. • The Macintosh Communications Toolbox v. 1.0 or later.
  32.  
  33. • A Communication Toolbox compliant application like 5PM (our own powerful
  34.   terminal emulation application), Claris Works, MacTerminal or Sample (delivered 
  35.   with the Communications Toolbox Basic Connectivity Set) or a HyperCard XCMD set 
  36.   like our ascHyperCTB product.

  38. • TCPack, our TCP/IP + Telnet + FTP server Connection Tool for the
  39.   Communications Toolbox, required by asc3270.

  42. Installation Procedure :
  43. ---------------------

  45. 1) Make sure the CTB is correctly installed.
  46.  
  47. 2) Load the "asc5250 Fonts" into your system file by using Font DaMover, or by
  48.    dragging them on your System file icon under System 7.0.
  49.    Make sure to trash any older versions of the asc5250 Fonts you may have in
  50.    your System file.
  51.  
  52. 3) Make sure to trash any older version of the asc5250Prefs file you may have
  53.    in your system folder.
  54.  
  55. 4) Drag the asc5250 tool into your "Communications Folder" located in the
  56.    System Folder if you are running System 6.0x or in your "Extensions" folder
  57.    if you are running System 7.0.
  58.  
  59. 5) Run your CTB compliant application, select and setup TCPack for the connection 
  60.    and asc5250 as terminal emulation.
  61.    Open the session; if you have correctly setup your parameters and… if you
  62.    have an IBM AS400 supporting tcp/ip telnet sessions, everything should work 
  63.    fine.

  65. 6) Use the On-line help if you have any problems.

  68. Configuration Procedure :

  71. 1) Select TCPack as Connection Tool. Choose an IBM-3278-x, IBM-3279-x or IBM-5250
  72.    Terminal Type in the Terminal Configuration Dialog. Note : if the IBM-5250 does
  73.       not appear in the list of terminals, do not enter it in the editable field : 
  74.    just select an IBM-3278-x or IBM-3279-x.

  76. 2) Select asc5250 as Terminal Tool. Usually, you will only need to change the 
  77.    "ASCII-EBCDIC" Conversion Table to fit with your local IBM system.

  79.    You will also need to select a Font Size of 9, or 7 Font, when using asc5250 on 
  80.    a 9'' screen or on a PowerBook.

  82. 3) The default colors and keyboard mapping provide a convenient way to use your 
  83.    tool but you can change them if you prefer. For exemple, the "Field Exit", 
  84.    "Field +" and "Field -" keys are NOT configured in the default keyboard. You 
  85.    must configure your own keyboard if you want to map these keys to your Macintosh 
  86.    keyboard. Refer to the Help dialog for more information.
